"Assemblywoman Jenne's distinguished record of service demonstrates her commitment to the rights of workers, quality care and numerous other issues of importance to the nursing home, hospital and home care workers represented by 1199SEIU," Sara Cooper, Central and Northern New York political coordinator for 1199SEIU Healthcare Workers East, said.
Assemblywoman Jenne said she was grateful for the support from the 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East .
"The workers represented by 1199SEIU provide such an important role in our health care system and have a lot of one-on-one contact with patients. Experienced, compassionate care is so important to families, some with elderly members or with special health needs or recovering from a procedure," Assemblywoman Jenne said.
"It is difficult work – physically and mentally – and the members of 1199SEIU often do not get recognition for the work they do day in and day out. Their work is critically important to patients when they are most vulnerable," she added.
She said she is working with schools, colleges, health care professionals and unions in an effort to strengthen the pipeline of young people entering the health care field.
"I am hearing on a regular basis about the challenges shortages in areas like CNAs and nurses are having on our health care facilities as well as on current employees in the field working double shifts to make up for the lack of medical professionals on staff. We have to do better," Assemblywoman Jenne said.
1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East represents employees at Samaritan Medical Center, Samaritan Keep Home, Samaritan Summit Village in Watertown, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg, Gouverneur Hospital and Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
The union also represents workers at Carthage Area Hospital, Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone and CVPH in Plattsburgh
The assemblywoman was also endorsed in recent weeks by the state AFL-CIO, New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), Public Employees Federation (PEF), CSEA and The Police Benevolent Association of New York State Law Enforcement (PBA of NYS).
"I'm always proud to be supported by organized labor. Our unions built the middle class in this country, and their role remains critically important today as our economy moves toward the rich getting richer and the hard working men and women of the middle class working harder and longer hours and falling further behind. I will continue to fight for fair wages and benefits for all workers," Assemblywoman Jenne said.
