I know the late Ernie Banks is the Mr. Cub, but Massena Village Trustee Herb Deshaies is the Mr. Cub of Massena this week. He was decked out in Cubs gear celebrating Chicago's World Series win when I saw him earlier this week. Herbie's son, Jim, a former major league pitcher, is in is fourth season as the Cubs color analyst for their television broadcasts. Herbie tells me his son;; daughter-in law, Lori, also a Massena native; and their three daughters were at Game 7 in Cleveland to see the Cubs win the World Series. It seems a long time ago that I joined Herbie and Massena Village Trustee Francis Carvel at the Massena Democrat's caucus for their village trustee candidates. I'm always proud to share the ballot with good people who care deeply about their hometown and its future.
