Assemblywoman Russell recognizes Clayton Chamber of Commerce annual dinner honoree

The Clayton Chamber of Commerce annual dinner this year was very special this year. The chamber recognized Anne Mellon as its citizen of the year and honored DPW employees John Farmer and Mike Badour, who performed CPR on an unresponsive motorist they found in the driver's seat of his vehicle. It was a powerful moment when that motorist, Vince Papineau, was at the podium thanking John and Mike for saving his life. Anne is involved in everything in Clayton, it seems, and is quite simply the glue that helps hold the community together.

A staffer from my office attended the annual dinner for me - I would have loved to be there but had another commitment in the district that night - and provided Anne with a citation from the New York State Assembly. Her work for her community is truly extraordinary. She is a member of the American Legion Post 821 Auxiliary, Clayton Improvement Association, Island Investors, Clayton Cemetery Association and Clayton Travel Club. She either currently is or has served in a leadership position with each of those organizations. She also is involved with and volunteers for activities at the Clayton Opera House, Thousand Island Land Trust, Save the River, Antique Boat Museum and the Antique and Classic Boat Society. Anne's work certainly shows she is a well deserving recipient of the citizen of the year honor.

Vince Papineau was found not breathing with no detectable heartbeat when Clayton DPW workers John Farmer and Mike Badour found him slumped over behind the steering wheel of his vehicle. Mr. Farmer and Mr. Badour immediately began CPR and provided care to Mr. Papineau until a TIERS ambulance crew arrived on scene and transported their patient to the crowd. Mr. Papineau addresses the crow with Mr. Farmer and Mr. Badour standing behind. The two DPW employees were presented a plaque honoring their work as lifesavers by Clayton DPW Superintendent Terry Jones. Mr. Papineau is alive today because Mr. Farmer and Mr. Badour were trained in CPR. That's an important message for all of us.
