Assemblywoman Russell visits summer food program in Cape Vincent

Assemblywoman Addie Jenne Russell (l) talks with Amy Pond during a recent visit to the summer food service program at the Cape Vincent recreation center. Assemblywoman Russell, a strong proponent of the summer food programs offered at several sites in the North Country, said the New York State Education Department predicted 400,000 free meals would be served daily at 2,900 sites across the state this summer. The summer food service program was established to ensure that low-income children, 18 and younger, continue to receive nutritious meals when schools are not in session. The USDA Food and Nutrition Service administers the summer food service program at the national level, and the state Education Department oversees the program at at the state level.
