Assemblywoman Addie Jenne Russell spoke at the Community.Recovery.Action.Day ceremony held Sunday in Watertown. The event, held on International Overdose Awareness and Remembrance Day, was designed to bring attention to the destructive nature of substance abuse and addiction. Local officials said there have been 13 lives lost to opiate overdoses in 2016 and that number could grow following the completion of toxicology tests on three to four additional deaths believed to have been drug related. The goal of Community.Recovery.Action. Day was to provide awareness and information about the disease of addiction, provide information on pathways to help for someone currently struggling with addiction and provide a place for healing and remembrance for those who have lost loved ones to addiction.
